Dr. Bergman is a researcher and strategic advisor whose work focuses on strengthening the relationship between families and schools. His research examines how family engagement contributes to school improvement and student outcomes — and how leaders can build systems that make partnership a sustained practice rather than a set of isolated initiatives.
He has designed and led multi-stage research studies and advised superintendents and district leaders across the country. His approach is grounded in the belief that schools become stronger when they know how to listen to, learn from, and work alongside their students' families.
Dr. Bergman earned his Doctorate in Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) from Harvard University, where he studied under leading scholars in family engagement and organizational improvement. Prior to founding Upwell, he established and led a district-level Office of Family and Community Engagement, building the infrastructure and training systems needed to embed family partnership into school culture.
His work is shaped by his professional roots in community organizing and youth mentoring, as well as his upbringing in a bilingual Latino immigrant home.
